When to (partly) outsource your digital marketing.

Not everyone wants to outsource 100% of their digital marketing. Maybe you’re worried about cost, or you just don’t want to hand over control of your website and social media.

Fortunately, there are speeds between full outsourcing and doing all the work yourself. Here’s when, how, and what to delegate if you want to find a happy medium.

Find a marketing partner who’ll manage and update your website and social media, and run your ads–but make sure you still get to oversee everything, contribute ideas, and have final approval. If you’re not sure what to look for in a marketing company, here’s a quick CRIB:

Control — They must give you final control over your website and social media. That means you should be able to edit, add posts, and most importantly, get and keep control if you fire the company.

Recommendations — Reviews and testimonials can be faked. It’s vital to actually speak to clients of the company. Ask to speak to a client who’s happy with their service on the phone.

Industry knowledge — Rather than going for a general marketing company, look for one that has experience and expertise in your sector

Budget — Choose a company that’s reasonably priced for what you need.

Once you’ve selected your marketing partner, treat them as part of your team, work together to develop your marketing plan, and ensure that everyone’s on the same page. Create a plan for your social media, website and advertising. An outside company can handle social advertising, AdWords, banner ads and website work.

Just make sure you always have control over the pages, lead the direction of the marketing, and  approve all content before it goes out. The idea is that you supply the vision, and your marketing team makes it a reality.
